New York Escaped Prisoners Killed and Captured

Three weeks after escaping the New York prison, both prisoners have been captured. David Sweat was shot and captured on June 28th and Richard Matt was shot and killed June 26th.

Richard Matt was spotted last Friday in Elephants Head, New York after being seen by a law enforcement officer in the woods. He was shot and killed on the scene. He was just 50 miles away from the prison. David Sweat was spotted in Constable, New York, just 1.5 miles away from the Canadian border.

Sweat was shot twice in the torso during the altercation with police officers. Sweat is now in critical condition in the Albany Medical Center, after being transferred from the Alice Hyde Medical Center. Authorities believe the two escapees used pepper shakers to throw off their scent from the dogs that were tracking them.

The New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, stated that he and authorities believe that the two prisoners were hoping to head to the Canadian border. “As a result, U.S. and Canadian law enforcement sent in reinforcements in an effort to both squeeze the escapees and keep them from potentially making it out of the country.”

Cuomo stated that it was unbelievable that teamwork and dedication put into this search. Also the investigations is still ongoing to figure out who is involved within this escape.
