A man in Los Angeles was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident that involved 2 different vehicles. The incident was caught on camera, but the drivers are still yet to be identified and found.
The victim, a 49 year old man, “was walking west on Vernon Avenue” in South Los Angeles, according to a report on the incident from CBS LA. The pedestrian accident occurred on Thursday, July 16th at 10:25 p.m.
As seen in the surveillance footage, the man was hit by what is described as “a light-colored SUV.” The force of the initial accident caused the man to be thrown into another lane of the street and be hit by another vehicle, “a light-colored Dodge Charger.” The second vehicle is believed to be a 2011-2015 model. The drivers did not stop after hitting the man. The victim later died in the hospital. A $50,000 reward is being offered for any information about the suspects.
It is not uncommon for pedestrian accidents to be fatal or to lead to severe injury. California is a fault-based state, so injury victims generally need to file a claim with the at-fault driver’s insurance company in order to recover compensation for their injuries. However, in hit and run cases like this, an injury victim and their family may not have that option. Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage provides benefits for people who are injured by people who do not have insurance. It is a way for victims of hit and run accidents to recover compensation through their own insurance company, rather than needing to file a claim with the absent at-fault party.
